Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 28, 2007

"The Wet Court"
The other day it was raining (even though it should have been snowing) and on my commute, I just had to stop and shoot some photos of this fellow who was out practicing his shooting on a wet court in the drizzling rain. There's some dedication for you! This is the third and final piece in my series on "Dedication". Enjoy!

Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 27, 2007

"Nighttime At The Dojo"
I tend to go to the gym later in the evening to avoid the after-work crowds. Right next to the gym I go to is a dojo and every night there's a couple of guys in there practicing their art. To me that demonstrates great dedication to their craft and that's what led me to paint this painting as the second in the series on "Dedication". Enjoy!

Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 26, 2007

"The Art Class"
Not too long ago, I did a daily painting of my daughter posed with her guitar. Well, that painting landed her a modeling job! My friend Ron Spears teaches a painting class and hired her to model for a couple of classes. This painting is of her being painted by that class. Most of the people painting her hadn't painted much figurative work, but they dove right in and painted with boldness and vigor. They all seem very dedicated to their painting, which leads me to introduce this piece as my first in a series on "dedication". Enjoy!

Congratulations to Daily Painting Winners!

This month, I decided to inject a little fun into the daily painting routine. I decided to give away a daily painting to one lucky winner on my daily email list. (Hint:if you aren't already signed-up, you should do so because I'm going to do another give-away next month.)
Well, I decided on a guessing game, asking participants to email me guesses as to which number I was thinking of. Each correct guesser got to advance to another round. Congratulations goes out to Pat W. of Reno, NV who guessed right each round and made a really short contest. Since Pat won so quickly, I decided to keep the fun going and have a consolation round for all who had taken the time to guess in my initial game.
Congratulations go out to Natalie G. of Spanish Springs, NV, and Erik S. of Saginaw, MI, who both guessed correctly right down the line in each round! They both did so well and guessed my exact number in the final round that I decided to declare a tie rather than keep forcing play-off rounds (they could have went on indefinitely!)
To those of you who played, thanks for participating! Don't lose heart, I'm going to announce another game next month in your daily email, so if you see anything written below the painting of the day, be sure to read it!

Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 23, 2007

"Knitting"
The process of knitting is fascinating to me. To think that the intersection of two needles and yarn can produce so many different things (blankets, hats, sweaters, etc.) is mind boggling, especially to a guy like me who can't even do that great of a job tying his shoe! Enjoy!

My Recent Radio Interview

I was recently interviewed by Terry Joy on KUNR FM 88.7 in Reno, Nevada. It was a very cool experience. If you missed the interview, you can catch it by clicking here. It's about 4MB mp3 and the interview lasts for approximately 9 minutes.

Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 22, 2007

"Intersection"
Today's painting bears the title of series' theme, "Intersection". I found this whole little composition quite interesting with the intersection of the con trails and clouds with the power lines and poles...not to mention the street's intersection that we typically think of. Enjoy!

Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 21, 2007

"Long Distance"
Continuing with the theme, "intersection", here's a painting I've titled, "Long Distance". The distant clouds, the setting sun all evoke thoughts of distance and those we know who are far from us. Intersecting with the horizon, the division of Earth and sky is the telephone pole and the lines that connect us with those who are far away. Enjoy!

"Railroad Crossing"
Last week's cowboy makes a nice segue into this weeks series. I start with a cowboy at a railroad crossing. This is a variant of a cowboy I painted years ago but thought I'd like to paint again in this small format to start a series this week based on the theme, "Intersection". Enjoy!

Wet On The Easel 2-19

I didn't paint a daily painting today, I've spent most of the three day weekend working on a larger studio piece. It's 32" x 24" Oil on Canvas. As of yet, it's untitled, but it's based on one of my daily paintings called, "Late Afternoon" found here on my website. Here it is, in progress, still wet on my easel. It's in the final stages, a few more details here and there and it will be done. Check my website in a week or two, I should have it posted.

"The Arch Bridge"
6"x8" Oil on Canvas

Carrying on with the bridge theme, this will be the last one in the series. My eldest daughter recently brought me a photo of this from a trip she took to Portland, Oregon. I found this bridge to be very interesting and the light falling on it was superb so I agreed with my daughter - that it would make a nice painting! Enjoy!

Random Musing

Today I drove past a store that sells medical and health related items, I guess. At any rate, they have painted in large letters on their front window "Diabetic Shoes".
I thought about that one for a while and I'm pretty sure I don't want any "Diabetic Shoes"...I'm not sure why anyone would. I mean, first all they're probably kind of expensive and furthermore, I just can't imagine spending all that time and money giving a pair of shoes insulin shots twice a day.

Daily Original Oil Painting for Feb. 8, 2007

"Stone Bridge"
6"x8" Oil on Canvas
This painting and tomorrow's will round out the week with the theme, "bridges". This is a stone bridge that spans one of the many creeks in Yosemite. Enjoy!
